Report: Sestak ‘Intends’ to Challenge Specter

Following up on Kathleen’s post, second-term Rep. Joe Sestak (D-Penn.) is soon to launch a primary run against the Senate’s newest Democrat, Arlen Specter, TPMDC reported today:
“„“He intends to get in the race,” says Meg Infantino, the Congressman’s sister, who works at Sestak for Congress. “In the not too distant future, he will sit down with his wife and daughter to make the final decision.”
TPMDC also received a handwritten letter, allegedly from Sestak himself, informing a supporter that Sestak “intend[s] to run for the U.S. Senate,” though he hedges a bit by indicating that his “candidacy’s credibility will have much to do with my fundraising success by [June 30].”
Specter, of course, just defected from the Republican Party with the idea that he’d have an easier time keeping his seat in Washington running as a Democrat. Party leaders — from President Obama to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) — have largely embraced Specter. The question is, who will they support if a promising, Harvard-educated Navy officer is challenging Specter for the seat?
