The former governor of Pennsylvania and former Secretary of Homeland Security appeared on C-SPAN this morning and called a 2012 run for president “unlikely,” but hinted that he “learned a long time ago never to say never.”
Ridge makes a little news by saying that “some people around me are talking about” a presidential bid, but the same thing happened in May when word circulated that Ridge might run against Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Penn.) in 2010. Ridge, whose bid would have been complicated by his residencein the Washington, D.C. suburbs of Maryland, took a pass. By many accounts, he was considered as a running mate for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) but ruled out for a reason that would haunt any potential GOP candidate: a fairly pro-choice record as a congressman and governor.
