A conservative friend passes on this article about Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) taking heat at a town hall meeting from “Robert Broadus of Clinton, Maryland,” reprinting Broadus’s statement.
I decided not to get the health insurance. That’s working out for me because I’m able to save that extra money and give it to my family members and use it on myself. Senator Cardin, I want to know are you going to tell me an individual … that I have to buy health care or else you’re going to fine me 25 hundred dollars every year I don’t get it? Our founding fathers assured us we have a Bill of Rights and I want to see you uphold that.
Ah, but the reporter didn’t do a Google search. Broadus is a Ron Paul supporter who ran for Congress in 2008, losing out in a primary to another Ron Paul supporter for the right to lose to Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Md.) in a safe Democratic seat. His Facebook page, which includes a picture of him with Joe the Plumber and a notice of his friendship with Stefan Cook (the reservist who’s filing legal challenges over President Obama’s citizenship), is here. This isn’t to discredit Broadus, only to point out that it’s strange to quote a Republican candidate and Tea Party attendee without pointing out this part of his biography.
