Over the weekend, Israel evicted two Palestinian families from largely-Palestinian East Jerusalem, a move met with near-universal international condemnation. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, in a joint appearance at the State Department with her Jordanian counterpart about an hour ago, saidIsrael’s move is “not in keeping with Israeli obligations.” AFP reports:
“Both sides have responsibilities to refrain from provocative actions that can block the path toward a comprehensive peace agreement,” the chief US diplomat continued.
“Unilateral actions taken by either party cannot be used to prejudge the outcome of negotiations. And they will not be recognized as changing the status quo.”
Here’s a moving video from Joseph Dana and Mairav Zonszein, two American-Israeli peace activists, documenting the evictions on the ground (After the jump).
