Critics of the conservatives who’ve brought guns to rallies outside of President Barack Obama’s speeches have found an unlikely ally: Bernard Kerik, the former New York City police commissioner whose 2004 nomination to run the Department of Homeland Security foundered under ethics scandals. In a column for Newsmax, Kerik invokes his cred as a “lifetime member of the National Rifle Association” to tell Second Amendment activists to cool it and leave their guns at home.
The president and his staff should let the Secret Service do its job, regardless of political correctness, and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano should ensure that the president is protected at all cost . . . and if that includes stepping on some protester’s toes, so be it.
I’m all for the Second Amendment and our right to bear arms, but not at the cost of endangering the president. This is a dangerous practice and it must be stopped.
Kerik reserves special vitriol for “Chris B,” the man who brought an AR-15 to the president’s speech this week in Arizona. “Use some common sense,” writes Kerik.
