Sen. Barack Obama’s campaign has filed a class-action lawsuitagainst state Republicans alleging that the party is hoping to prevent voters who are in the midst of a foreclosure from voting.
Reporter Eartha Melzer of our sister site Michigan Messenger broke the storythat triggered the suit, quoting the state party chair James Carabelli, who said purging such voters would be part of the state’s strategy:
“We will have a list of foreclosed homes and will make sure people aren’t voting from those addresses,” party chairman James Carabelli told Michigan Messenger in a telephone interview earlier this week. He said the local party wanted to make sure that proper electoral procedures were followed.
The story has hit a nerve in a state that’s been beaten hit badly by the foreclosure crisis.
