FAIRFAX, Va– Midway through his talk about women’s issues at a secondary school in Fairfax, Virginia, Sen. Barack Obama took dead aim at the dead-center fastball delivered by Sen. John McCain’s top economic adviser Phil Gramm, who called the current economic problems in the country a "mental recession," and going as far as calling a dispirited, struggling country a "nation of whiners." He then proceeded to add in McCain’s admission that some of his recently announced energy proposals would be primarily "psychological."
"Well, you know, America already has one Dr. Phil," Obama said. "When it comes to the economy we don’t need another."
Truth to tell, we weren’t sure who got off worse–McCain and Gramm or Oprah Winfrey’s favorite pseudo-shrink. But, perhaps after this is all over the good doctor can bring Obama and McCain together for a televised intervention, to heal some of the wide wounds this campaign has created. If it works for that family of ten living in three bedrooms, why can’t it work for them?
