I just talked with Club for Growth Executive Director David Keating about his group’s activity in the NY-23 special election. The Club, like many other conservative groups, has endorsed Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman over GOP candidate Dede Scozzafava. But this morning, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich endorsed Scozzafava, arguing that a GOP win was essential to a Republican comeback.
“Gingrich does this all the time,” said Keating. “He does whatever the party committee asks him to. He likes to cultivate this image of being an innovator and a thinker and so on, and then he endorses the most tired, worn-out, special interest-genuflecting candidate you can possibly find.”
