Environmentalists woke up to a welcome surprise this morning, as The New York Timesand other outlets reported that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce — arguably the most powerful opponent of cap-and-trade legislation — had pulled a 180 and decided to support a climate bill. Climate blogger Adam Siegelproclaimed it “good news for America” and praised Chamber President Tom Donohue for being “strong enough to stand up in public to admit his errors and call for a new path forward.”
The only problem? The whole thing was a hoax.

*Update: *Kate Sheppardattended the announced press conference, and instead of Donohue, she found prankster Andy Bichlbaum of the Yes Men. A Chamber representative was present — but in protest.
