That’s the message coming from Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.). According to The Hill, the chairman of the Education and Labor Committee told reporters today that, “Unless there are major problems I would expect the opportunity for amendments to be very limited, if at all.”
Miller and fellow leader Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) said the dozens of closed-door caucus meetings and private consultations between leaders and the different sub-groups of House Democrats are replacing the need for amendments to be debated and voted upon on the House floor.
That might be true, but it’s sure to alienate the countless constituencies that are drooling over the opportunity to alter the bill on the chamber floor. And wait ’til the Republicans hear …
