Dede Scozzafava’s husband Ron McDougall, a labor activist whose ties and decisions often came back to hurt the Republican candidate in NY-23 — it was McDougall who called the cops on Weekly Standard reporter John McCormack — has endorsed Democratic candidate Bill Owens. Elizabeth Benjamin has the statement:
As a life-long labor activist, I know that Bill Owens understands the issues important to working people. On the other hand, Doug Hoffman has little regard for the interests of workers.
Hoffman’s opposition to the Employee Free Choice Act, coupled with his support for the failed policies of the Bush Administration make him a poor choice to serve the citizens of the 23rd Congressional District.
It’s no secret that Democrats want Scozzafava to loudly endorse Owens as the race goes down to the wire. But this news isn’t so bad for Republicans, who have ramped up a lot of non-ideological support for Hoffman with the argument that that Scozzafava came from a corrupt political machine.
