I wrote yesterday about Adm. Robert Harward, the deputy commander of Joint Forces Command in Norfolk, Va., a key ally of Gen. Stanley McChrystal who’s been playing a leading role in the White House Afghanistan debates. Harward will, as I reported, go to Afghanistan by the end of the month to lead a new task force on detention operations. And it appears the preparations are well underway. According to Kathleen Janns, a spokeswoman for the command, newly minted Army Lt. Gen. Keith Huberarrived yesterday to take over for Harward. Huber just finished a tour leading the Army component of U.S. Southern Command, which oversees all U.S. military operations in Central and South America.
