Four of the 15 protesters arrestedin the office of Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) since Thursday remain in jail, refusing to give their names, and are threatening to remain there until the senator agrees to talk to them, according to Lacy MacAuley, representative of Mobilization for Health Care for All, the single-payer advocacy group that organized the protests.
Two of the four hold-outs were arrested last Thursday and two were arrested today, Macauley said. One is a Connecticut resident. Another is on a hunger strike.
“So far the senator has refused to speak with them,” MacAuley said.
Lieberman’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but the Connecticut Independent is no stranger to liberal choler, having endorsed Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) for president last year. That anger was reignited last month after Lieberman announcedthat he would join Republicans to filibuster the Democrats’ health reform proposal if it includes a public insurance plan in any form.
