Yes, yes, hell is breaking loose in the United States too, but this is really end-times material: an Afghan diplomat just got kidnapped in Peshawar. The New York Times:
“Five or six” gunmen fired on the car of the senior diplomat, Afghan’s consul general in Peshawar, as it was passing through a wealthy neighborhood in Peshawar, the capital of North-West Frontier Province, according to a spokesman for the Afghan Foreign Ministry. The driver was killed, and the diplomat, Abdul Khaliq Farahi was taken to an unknown location, the spokesman, Sultan Ahmad Baheen, said.
Mr. Farahi, who has served in Peshawar since 2001, was one of several candidates to become Afghanistan’s next ambassador to Pakistan.
So: bombs exploding in the capitol, high-profile kidnappings of dignitaries from neighboring countries, bombastic and violent anti-U.S. posturing. Is this Pakistan in 2008 or Iraq in 2006?
