Mark this Washington Post poll as one of the less surprising surveys of the Republican Party this year. Only 18 percent of self-identified Republicans call Sarah Palin the national figure who most represents their values.
Among those who regularly listen to Limbaugh, however, Palin was cited by 48 percent, and among Beck’s viewers, it was 35 percent, far surpassing others.
I say it’s not a surprise because Palin has courted fans of Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck, appearing on their shows in the run-up to her book tour. The Limbaugh and Beck versions of the anti-Obama argument are actually somewhat different — if you had to summarize them, Limbaugh sees Obama as the latest Democratic socialist president, while Beck sees him as the culmination of 100 years of Communist planning to destroy the fabric of American life. So it makes sense that Limbaugh’s hard partisan fans like Palin more than Beck’s trust-no-one fans.
