On health care reform, there’s no Republican in either chamber with more clout over his GOP colleagues than Sen. Grassley (R-Iowa). Although Grassley, the ranking Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, remains opposed to the Democrats’ reform bill, he was a member of the “Gang of Six” that crafted much of the legislation, and he’s been an influential backer of many of the insurance reforms now central to the bill. You’d also be hard pressed to find a closer working relationship between the heads of any congressional committee than that between Grassley and Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.).
