Glenn Reynolds responds:
SORRY, STILL NOT SEEING THE ANEURYSM CONNECTION.Weigel’s snark notwithstanding, it was a weak point.
Eh, I’ll grant this. As far as I know — and the guy was my senator for 16 years — Biden’s speaking style has less to do with his medical historyand more to do with, well, being Joe Biden. But that’s as far as I know! Medical history is, to me, a more useful guide for understanding why a person talks a certain way than a Bill Frist-on-Terri Schiavo-esque amateur analysis of a video.
As for the Biden angle, note that I updated very shortly when readers informed me.
True enough, and I don’t think I implied otherwise, but color me unimpressed when Reynolds indicated without the simplest Google search that I was ignorant about Biden, and that he had proof (“this White House video”). A Google search for “biden” and “beer” immediately turns up stories about the vice president’s teetotaler lifestyle.
Weigel, on the other hand, didn’t respond to similar feedback in the same fashion. But he manages to work in an anti-Bush angle.
Well, I didn’t get anything wrong, so I didn’t have to fix anything. And my photo illustration of the 43rd president was not “anti-Bush.” Reynolds implied (twice) that Biden was a phony for drinking non-alcoholic beer — I pointed out that our last president, also a non-drinker, enjoyed non-alcoholic beer. If anyone’s working an angle, it’s Reynolds, accidentally calling George W. Bush a phony. Has he forgotten 9/11? Is he drunk?
