I’m still in shock over former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s commentthat “we had no domestic attacks under Bush.” Is it possible that he meant to add “after 9/11″ and slipped up? I don’t know — forgetting to mention 9/11 is not a problem he’s had in the past.
I think Jake Tapper, on Twitter, is on to something when he suggests that Giuliani is one of many conservative who start the clock on the Bush presidency on 9/11. A smart conservative demand from President Obama right now might be that he “start the clock” on his anti-terror policy with the failed Christmas bombing. But that’s not what Giuliani’s doing here — he implies (as many Bush apologists do) that an attack that occurred nine months into the Bush presidency was Bill Clinton’s fault, while an attack that occurred 12 months into the Obama presidency was all Obama’s fault. He’s taking the right amount of flak.
