President Obama launchedthe panel last month after the Senate — behind a cynical group of previously supportive Republicans— killed a proposalto create a similar commission. The panel, composed of 12 members of Congress and various budget experts, will make recommendations to Congress about ways to rein in deficit spending — a concession that Capitol Hill lawmakers can’t do the job on their own.
