Here’s Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) last month, commenting on the possibility that Republicans would filibuster President Obama’s pick to replace outgoing Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens. (Via The Hill):
McConnell said during an interview on “Fox News Sunday” last month that it would be “highly unlikely” for Republicans to filibuster Obama’s Supreme Court pick.
He said he could not envision a filibuster unless the nominee had “really bizarre views.”
And here’s McConnell walking backthose comments today, just hours after Elena Kagan was nominated for the spot:
“It’s way too early to be making a decision about the issue of whether there should be a 60 vote threshold on the nominee,” the Senate GOP leader said during an appearance on ABC News’s “Top Line” webcast.
“I think it’s way too early to predict when this will reach a conclusion on the Senate floor,” McConnell later noted.
As if Kagan just arrived in a coffee can from Pluto.
