More War In Northern Iraq (Or Not)

I’ve been a harbinger of doom on northern Iraqfor so long I’ve surely lost all credibility. But this is the sort of thing that happens when you go to Mosul and hear the Sunnis say that there’s going to be war unless Baghdad defers a referendum on whether the north should be part of Kurdistan and the Kurds say there’s going to be war if Baghdad does exactly that.
Yet the war — in the sense of something worse than the violence in the north right now— hasn’t come. And according to Reuters, it looks like we might see another referendum deferral. So I’m going to just throw my hands up and say I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I truly hope-against-hope that there’s a way to resolve the status of the disputed northern cities peacefully. Helpful analysis, I know.
