It appears that yet another incumbent is in serious danger of losing his seat in Congress after South Carolina Rep. Bob Inglis’ (R) poor showing in tonight’s primary election. With 88 percent of precincts reporting in the 4th District, county solicitor Trey Gowdy led with 43 percent to just 26 percent for Inglis. The Associated Press called a runoff in the race shortly before 10 pm ET.
And in the state’s gubernatorial race, top Republican candidate Nikki Haley also appears headed for a runoff after narrowly failing to win a majority in tonight’s primary. Haley, a former state representative, received 49 percent of the vote with 90 percent of precincts reporting. Haley will face second-place finisher, Rep. Gresham Barrett, in the runoff.
South Carolina’s runoff elections are scheduled for just two weeks from today on June 22.
