McClellan’s Back!

The House Judiciary Committee is back in business asking former White House press secretary Scott McClellan about parts of his new tell-all book they don’t understand. Here are some highlights from the past hour:
- Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) was in all-out patronizing mode. Issa said he was "bothered" by the book not because he disagreed with the content, but because McClellan waited until now to release it. Why not a year earlier, Issa asked, when McClellan could have affected the administration’s policies? Issa also asked McClellan if he would be in favor a law prosecuting press secretaries for giving the media false information. McClellan didn’t really answer the question. It was hard to blame him.
- Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Tex.) makes a spectacular point that will surely end the GOP attacks that McClellan is just in this for the money. "Are you paid to be at this hearing?" she asked. "No," McClellan confidently said. There.
- Rep. Robert Wexler (D-Fla.) kept yelling that Dick Cheney must be involved in the Plame leak. Neither Wexler nor McClellan gave us any new information. But he kept yelling for a solid two minutes, so I thought it was important, until Mike Lillis pointed out to me that it wasn’t.
