House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is holding a meeting tomorrow with the relevant committee chairs to discuss the path forward for the chamber’s oil spill response legislation, a House source says.
House lawmakers have introduced a number of proposals in response to the spill, including the Blow Out Prevention Act of 2010, which is co-sponsored by Energy & Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman (D-Calif.), the committee’s Energy and Environment Subcommittee Chairman Edward Markey (D-Mass.) and Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.). The bill would impose a number of restrictions on offshore drilling.
A second major proposal, the Consolidated Land, Energy, and Aquatic Resources (CLEAR) Act, authored by House Natural Resources Chairman Nick Rahall (D-W.Va.), is being marked up in the committee today. The proposal would, among other things, reorganize the drilling oversight role of the Interior Department.
