New Mexico environmental groups are airing a TV ad this week asking Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.) to use his position as chairman of a key Senate panel to help push a climate bill, according to The Associated Press. Video after the jump:
Bingaman has been described as the Democrats’ last hope for an energy bill. He has crafted a utility-only energy bill with input from Sen. Olympia Snowe’s (R-Maine) staff, which TWI obtainedyesterday.
“As Senate Energy Committee Chairman, Sen. Bingaman has helped to make New Mexico a leader in clean energy jobs,” said Jake Horowitz, Field Associate with Environment New Mexico and State Lead for the Clean Energy Works Coalition in a statement. “Now Sen. Bingaman has the opportunity to show bold leadership by helping to enact clean energy and climate legislation that will create jobs for New Mexico and states across the country, enhance our national security, reduce our oil dependence, and cut pollution. This debate is happening now in Washington and Senator Bingaman is playing a key role in developing this policy.”
