If the Tea Party movement is the showy cheerleader in conservative politics that gets all the attention, then the Club For Growth is the sullen looking boy who you ignore at your own peril. Tea Partiers have made big headlines knocking off establishment figures in Republican primaries from Florida to Utah, but the Club for Growth, the anti-tax advocacy organization, has been busy funding many of the same insurgent candidates.
This time the Club For Growth is coming out swinging in favor of former Tennessee GOP Chairwoman Robin Smith, who’s currently lagging in fundraising for her Tennessee primary next week, in which she faces former trial lawyer Chuck Fleischmann. Politico reportshow the Club has cut a new ad that slams Fleishmann and takes special note of his former profession:
Why is trial lawyer Chuck Fleischmann attacking conservative Robin Smith? Because they don’t see eye-to-eye on spending,” says the 30-second spot. “Robin Smith has pledged to oppose all wasteful spending earmarks in Washington. Fleischmann wants to continue Washington spending. It’s a clear choice.” [...]
The Club for Growth, which has already bundled over $100,000 in cash for Smith, declined to specify how much it was spending to air the ad.
