Tea Party Nation sent out a message to its members asking for stories about “The Horrors of Illegal Immigration” in a push to round up stories about illegal immigrants who have committed crimes or taken jobs from American workers.
“„If have been the victim of a crime by an illegal, or if your business has gone under because your competition uses illegals, or if you have lost your job to illegals, we want to know about it.
“„If you have photos and videos of illegals or their supporters doing outrageous things (like burning the American flag or putting the Mexican flag above ours, or showing racist posters), please share those as well. We need to get the true story out about illegal immigration and we need your help to do it.
Stories of violent, dangerous illegal immigrants have long been part of the pushfor harsher immigration enforcement. Congressman Ted Poe (R-Tex.) issued a press releaseyesterday discussing a fatal drunk driving accident allegedly caused by an illegal immigrant — an incident he said proves the need for tougher border security. If immigrants crossed the border illegally, enforcement advocates argue, they’re likely to break other laws once they’re here.
Of course, some illegal immigrants do commit crimes. But pro-immigrant groups have pushed backagainst claims that all illegal immigrants are dangerous. Instead, they argue, most simply want to findbetter economic opportunities and live peacefully in the U.S.
