After a jurisdictional mix-up caused the House to re-start the $600 million border security billthis morning, it looked like the bill might be delayed until after the Senate returns from recess in September. Reconvening early is on the table, however, according to a Senate aide. The bill was passed by the Senate last week, then started over as an identical bill in the House today because it of a jurisdictional problem. In light of the news, some House members and senators have calledfor the Senate to return from recess to vote on the bill, as the House did with its special session for the state-aid bill today.
Jim Manley, a spokesman for Majority Leader Harry Reid, said in an email the Senate may have a vote by consent by the end of the week. Democrats are on board, but Reid is waiting to see whether Republicans will hold up the bill, he wrote.
