The story out of Colorado is that the Tea Party’s favored Republicans will face the Democrats’ chosen candidates in November, while Connecticut Republican senate candidate Linda McMahon won her raceand the Georgia GOP governors’ runoff is still too close to call.
From Colorado, the victories of Tea Party favorites — businessman Dan Maes in the governor’s race and Weld County District Attorney Ken Buckin the Senate contest — in the Republican primaries are just the latest in a series of Tea Party candidate victories over hand-picked GOP candidates. After the shaky debuts of Rand Paul in Kentucky and Sharron Angle in Nevada, Democrats are hoping Buck, too, will say or do something to throw the race into the Democrat Michael Bennet’s favor. Meanwhile, with right-wing third party candidate Tom Tancredo in the state’s governor’s race, Dan Maes is facing an uphill battle against Democrat John Hickenlooper, the Denver mayor.
In Connecticut, Linda McMahon, despite her $22 million in self-financing, won her primary but fell just shortof the 50 percent mark in the three-way race. Meanwhile, because the Georgia GOP governor’s race looks like it will be decided by less than a percentage point, an arduous recount is likely.
