The Alaska Division of Elections said yesterday that it has more than 20,000 absentee and questioned ballots left to process, accordingto the Anchorage Daily News, meaning that the squeaker of a primary race between Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and challenger Joe Miller is far from over.
In addition to receiving over 11,000 absentee ballots thus far, the Daily News reports that “there are also 658 early votes not yet counted and 8,972 questioned ballots. A ballot can be ‘questioned’ for several reasons. Often the reason is that the voter cast the ballot in a precinct other than where they live.”
It’s unclear how many of the ballots were cast in the GOP primary versus the Democratic primary that occurred on the same day, but conventional wisdom indicates that in a state with an energized conservative base likely to win the seat in November, most of the remaining ballots were cast by Republicans.
