LA CROSSE, Wisc.– Sen. Barack Obama didn’t spend much time in this small town Wednesday, but the locals will keep drinking Obama cocktails long after the Democratic presidential nominee has gone.
There are more bars per capita in La Crosse than most U.S. cities, according to locals and web chatter. And one watering hole is so gripped by election fever that it’s serving “campaign specials” through November.
I snagged the bar’s table flier last night, which spells out the recipes for “Nova-McCains” and “Barrack-A-Racka.” (The two Rs in Barack’s name may be from spell check, which offers Barrack, like an Army Barrack.)
Some of the traveling press pool hit the bar to celebrate a Washington Post reporter’s birthday.
Obama did not attend — though he did ask the reporter earlier in the day how old he was turning — and people tried the bright red Nova-McCains.
No biases, however, should be inferred.
