An editorial in today’s New Orleans Times-Picayune today says calls for an extension of the Obama administration’s moratorium on deepwater drilling in light of yesterday’s oil rig explosion in the Gulf are “disingenuous.”
The editorial underscores the continued resistance to the administration’s six-month moratorium in the Gulf, where the oil industry, despite its flaws, still plays a crucial role in the region’s economy.
BP’s Deepwater Horizon explosion and the resulting oil spill were should not be compared to the Vermilion 380 explosion yesterday, the newspaper says.
