This post is the first in an occasional blog series in which we hear from real Gulf coast residents on how the oil spill impacts their lives.
Elodia Blanco, a life-long Louisiana resident, watched her television yesterday in disbelief.
“For the first maybe two or three minutes, I thought, maybe this is an old story from BP,” she says, from her home outside New Orleans. “As I sat down and just focused, I was like, ‘Oh my god.’”
Blanco says it’s time to put major restrictions on drilling off of Louisiana’s waters. “I blame it on greed,” she says. “The greed of our political officials who have sat back and enjoyed the money from the oil industry. They’ve accepted the fun and the games and all the bonuses.”
