Ask and you shall receive. In response to Meg Whitman’s ad that features Bill Clinton accusing Jerry Brown of inaccurately stating his tax record (and my blog postseeking both camps’ numbers on the issue), the Brown campaign has shared with me a press release and a “Truth Box” debunking Whitman’s (and Clinton and CNN’s) claims.
The “Truth Box” doesn’t actually refute the fact that Brown opposed Proposition 13, the ballot measure that limited the state’s property taxes and required a two-thirds majority in both state legislative chambers to raise taxes, yet it seems odd that Brown is even trying to appear affiliated with the measure. Most liberals blame the proposition for ruining the state’s once top-notch public school system and making it impossible for California to close its looming budget gap without gutting essential services.
Other than that, the numbers look pretty solid to me, but feel free to judge for yourself.
