When Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal (D) enjoyed a thirty point lead over his rival, former World Wresting Entertainment CEO Linda McMahon (R), in his Senate bid, visiting Connecticut was probably not on the president’s ‘to do’ list. Now that Blumenthal’s lead has declined to a mere six points in a recent poll, however, Obama is on his wayto the Constitution State to campaign this afternoon and raise funds this evening.
McMahon has been steadily chipping away at Blumenthal’s lead in the polls, despite media reportsthat for the third time in the past month (and the fifth time since McMahon declared her candidacy), a former WWE wrestler has died before the age of 60. McMahon’s opponents have tried using the reportsas ammo in accusing her former company of disregarding the health of its wrestlers, making them sign forms releasing WWE from all liability and providing them with inadequate health coverage. McMahon’s self-funded, $50 million campaign seems to be sufficiently drowning out all dissonant sound on the airwaves, however.
Making the most of his time, Obama will attend not one, but two fundraising dinners in Connecticut — the first a $1,ooo per plate affair at the Marriott Hotel in Stamford, the second a more exclusive $30,000 a ticket dinner at a private estate in Stamford.
