It turns out just under 400 people have applied for relief under a $100 million fund BP set up to compensate rig workers who lost their jobs because of the Obama administration’s moratorium on deepwater drilling. The low number could indicate that the moratorium didn’t have as significant an impact on rig workers as was originally thought.
In fact, an Obama administration report saidmany companies kept on their employees after the moratorium. But the report noted that the drilling ban had a more significant impact on other sectors of the Gulf economy that rely on drilling.
