Tea Party Express, the California-based organization famous for propelling Nevada’s Sharron Angle — and later Alaska’s Joe Millerand Delaware’s Christine O’Donnell— over entrenched Republicans to capture the GOP Senate nominations in their respective states, has announced another cross-country bus tourand series of campaign rallies that will begin on Oct. 18 in Reno, Nevada. Fromthe Las Vegas Review-Journal:
The Tea Party Express is the same group that was behind the “Showdown in Searchlight,” the anti-Sen. Harry Reid rally in March in his hometown that began an earlier cross-country tour.
[Spokesman Levi] Russell said the latest tour’s kickoff was set in Nevada to have an impact during early voting that begins on Oct. 16.
Tea Party favorite Sarah Palin was the draw to the Searchlight event but it is not known whether she will be returning to the state during the upcoming tour or for events on behalf of Angle.
The two-week Tea Party tour will end on Nov. 1 with a rally in Concord, N.H.
In typical pugilistic fashion, Senator Harry Reid’s (D-Nev.) camp has respondedwith a statement that says he welcomes Tea Party Express’s return to Nevada to speak out against him and on behalf of Sharron Angle. The statement also practically dares Angle to appear with the out-of-state group that it characterizes as extreme:
“We look forward to having the Tea Party Express, who even Republican Lisa Murkowski called ‘an outside extremist group’ that ‘hijacked’ the Republican Party, on full display in Nevada,” [Reid spokesman Jon] Summers said in a statement.
“The question is: after no-showing at two previous Tea Party events in Utah and Texas, will Angle’s DC handlers actually allow her to show up this time? After all, her last appearance seems to have caused more problems than it was worth after Angle mocked ‘autism’ in front of the group and railed against requiring insurance companies to cover maternity care.
“No matter what, it is very clear that Angle’s campaign continues to rely solely on out-of-state support because mainstream Nevadans have already rejected her extreme agenda,” Summers said.
