A fast-circulating Sunshine State News pollshowed Rep. Alan Grayson’s (D-Fla.) dramatically trailing his Republican opponent, Daniel Webster, but today Grayson’s campaign forcefully dismissed the poll, citing the political leanings of its source. The poll shows him trailing Webster by 7 points.
The survey was carried out by Susquehanna Polling and Research, which consults exclusively for Republicans. It found Webster leading Grayson by 43 to 36 points in the swing district that represents most of Orlando. Fifty-one percent of respondents had an unfavorable view of the firebrand Democrat.
“The corporate-funded right-wing Sunshine State News has no credibility,” Sam Drzymala, Grayson’s campaign spokesman, told TWI in an email.
Drzymala argued that Sunshine State News favors a big business, Republican agenda and has been attacking Grayson since 2008. He noted that the Grayson campaign’s recent internal pollingshows the freshman congressman ahead by 13 points and doubted such a swing could occur so quickly.
The Sunshine/Susquehanna poll comes days after Grayson released an explosive attack adcomparing Webster to Taliban fanatics for his stern positions on women’s issues.
