President George W. Bush met with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown yesterday in London to discuss Iran and Afghanistan. Brown proposed freezing the assets of Iran’s biggest bank and suggested tightening oil and gas sanctions if Iranian leaders don’t “resolve international concerns over its nuclear activities.” Both leaders are deeply unpopular, with approval ratings in the 20s, and the headlines focused more on the press conference, leaving out details about the hundreds of anti-war protesters who greeted Bush in central London. This is supposed to be Bush’s last scheduled visit while in office, and the media seems to already have moved on, quoting Bush rarely and mostly paraphrasing the president, while quoting Brown’s hard line against Tehran’s alleged nuclear activities.
Still, both leaders made the headlines.
