Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) has fired an aide that posted an anti-gay comment on a blog in the run-up to a vote on overturning the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.

Regardless of one’s position on issues and policies, such comments are simply unacceptable, are not befitting those who work in the U.S. Senate, and I will not tolerate them from my staff.
Last month, as the Senate failed to passa defense authorization bill that included a provision that would have repealed the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, a commenter named “Jimmy” wrote, “All faggots must die,” on Joe.My.God, a gay culture blog. The author of the blog, Joseph Jervis, tracked the IP address of the comment and found that it originated near Chambliss’s office. The Senate Sergent at Arms investigated the incident, determining it originated from the computer of an aide in the office, though the aide’s name was not released.
