Hodge was born in Jacksonville, North Carolina on September 20, 1986. His parents, Aldis Basil Hodge and Yolette Evangeline Richardson, both served in the U.S. Marine Corps. While his mother is from Florida, his father is originally from Dominica. Edwin Hodge, his older brother, is also an actor.
As a child, Aldis Hodge played both the clarinet and violin and currently still plays the latter. He attended Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California and has pursued other interests such as designing watches, writing, and painting. In 2018, he collaborated with painter Harmonia Rosales on a series of paintings called "Through the Looking Glass" which were exhibited in Los Angeles from January 10 to 14. Hodge is a self-taught horologist and watchmaker, with his own brand of luxury watches, A. Hodge Atelier. He has also spoken about the need for more diversity in the watchmaking industry.
Hodge was cast as Alec Hardison in the TNT series Leverage in 2007. For this role, he was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor on Television in 2009.
