Alvin Martin is a well-known soccer player and retired English footballer who played as a defender. He was born in the United Kingdom on July 29, 1958. Former West Ham United F.C. defender who played for the club for 20 years.

Martin was born in Walton, Liverpool, Lancashire, and played schools football for Bootle and Lancashire. As a schoolboy, he was attached to Merseyside club Everton, but left in 1974 after the Goodison Park club only offered him a part-time apprenticeship.
An unsuccessful trial with Queens Park Rangers later that summer was followed the next day by one with West Ham United, where he was offered a contract as an apprentice on August 19, 1974.
He made his professional debut on July 29, 1976, after appearing in the FA Youth Cup final in 1975.
He didn't make his first team debut until March 18, 1978, when he came on as a substitute against Aston Villa. On 5 May 1996, he came on as an 88th-minute substitute against Sheffield Wednesday.

He spent the majority of his career with West Ham United, appearing in 598 games and scoring 34 goals. Martin left West Ham in 1996 after 21 years with the club and winning the 1980 FA Cup.
He played one season with Leyton Orient before moving into football management with Southend United.
This lasted two seasons before he began a career in the media as a pundit on Sky Sports TV football talk shows and on radio station talkSPORT. Martin represented England at the 1986 World Cup after appearing 17 times for them during the 1980s.
Ron Greenwood gave Martin his first England cap against Brazil at Wembley in May 1981. Injury kept him out of the 1982 FIFA World Cup finals in Spain.
However he was in top form when the next manager, Bobby Robson, included him in his squad for the 1986 edition in Mexico.
He played in the victory over Paraguay, replacing the suspended Terry Fenwick, but was dropped for the next game, the quarter-final defeat by Argentina's infamous 'Hand of God'; he made 17 international appearances in total.
