Brittney Griner transferred to a Russian penal colony and her lawyer has no idea where she is headed. Brittney Griner, a star in the WNBA from the United States, is going to a Russian prison colony to serve her nine-year sentence.
Her lawyers, family, and the US consulate have no idea where the American Olympian is right now because they lost track of her when she was moved to one of Russia's notorious prison colonies.
Her lawyers, Maria Blagovolina and Alexander Boykov, said that they don't know where she is or where she's going to jail.
In accordance with the standard Russian procedure, the lawyers, as well as the US Embassy, should be notified upon her arrival at her destination. Notification is given via official mail and normally takes up to two weeks to be received.- Brittney Griner's lawyers Maria Blagovolina and Alexander Boykov
So, Griner's family and the American embassy might not know where the WNBA star is in Russia for a few weeks.
Conditions in Russia's prison colonies are known to be very bad. Former prisoners have said that they were treated like slaves and that life there was very hard.
Alexei Navalny is a Russian opposition leader, lawyer, and anti-corruption activist. He spent time in a prison colony not far from Moscow. In an Instagram post, he called the prison a "friendly concentration camp."
Video cameras are everywhere, everyone is watched and at the slightest violation they make a report. I think someone upstairs read Orwell's 1984 and said: 'Yeah, cool. Let's do this. Education through dehumanisation.'- Alexei Navalny is a Russian opposition leader, lawyer, and anti-corruption activist
Lindsay Colas, Griner's agent, has said that she cares about her client's health and well-being.
"As we work through this very difficult phase of not knowing exactly where BG is or how she is doing, we ask for the public’s support in continuing to write letters and express their love and care for her," she said in a statement.
In February, Griner was taken into custody at a Russian airport after police were said to have found cannabis oil cartridges in her luggage. When she was caught, the basketball player only had 0.7 grams of THC on her.
Since then, the 31-year-old has been in Russian custody. In August, she was found guilty of drug smuggling and drug possession.
Since then, the Olympic champion has tried to get out of her nine-year sentence, but the Russian court said no.

Conclusion

During the WNBA's off-season, Griner was in Russia playing basketball for UMMC Ekaterinburg.
