Cecily explains why she kept her Saturday Night Live exit a secret until the very end. On the December 17 episode of Saturday Night Live, the comedian announced her departure from the storied sketch show after 11 seasons.
Strong, a master of characters, funny accents, and comedic timing, has frequently been at the center of the most memorable sketches and Weekend Update guest appearances. But that all came to an end this past weekend when the cast member unexpectedly left SNL after 11 seasons.

Cecily's Saturday Night Live Exit

Cecily Strong Makes ‘SNL’ Exit After 11 Seasons

Strong's departure came as a surprise to fans who had no idea, she planned to leave the late-night show. Of course, there were rumors that she would leave, as Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, Pete Davidson, and others did at the end of last season.
Strong attempted to be honest with her fans in a new Instagram photo posted on December 19, explaining that making her exit public would have added even more pressure to what was already a very emotional decision for her.
On Sunday, December 18, Strong took to Instagram to share a clip of the night's final sketch, which featured her co-stars singing Elvis' "Blue Christmas," as well as her thoughts on leaving the series after so many years.
My heart is bursting. I have a lot of big, huge life-changing love to unpack, so this is what I can say tonight. Ten and a half years ago I got my dream job. The first actual workday I tried to be very cool and make it look like I knew what I was doing, and I was supposed to be there. I left that night around 11 after saying goodbye to everyone. I got stuck wandering around the building because none of the elevators went to the first floor, and I was trying so hard to avoid having to go back upstairs to ask for help because I’d already said goodbye! I think I went to every floor trying to figure out if there was another exit I was missing. I might have even gone into a stairwell. I ended up going back upstairs and my soon-to-be great friend Colin Jost helped me out and walked me over to the secret nighttime elevator.- Cecily Strong

Cecily Strong's Career

Strong's other notable characters include The Girl You Wish You Hadn't Started A Conversation With At A Party, a version of whom everyone seems to know; Heather, the spot-on One-Dimensional Female Character from a Male-Driven Comedy; and Sharon, a staple of McKinnon's sketches about sexual encounters with space aliens.
Strong, 38, was raised in Oak Park, Illinois, by divorced parents. Strong claims she was expelled from high school after marijuana was discovered in her backpack.
She eventually ended up at the renowned Chicago theater and improv school Second City, where she was an understudy on the Mainstage and a member of the National Touring Company.

Conclusion

Cecily also said goodbye to Weekend Update in her final episode, as the brash, chain-smoking Cathy Anne, announced she was going to prison.
During the Weekend Update segment, Strong also had one last chance to play her hilarious character Cathy Anne.
Strong is the ninth cast member to leave SNL since Aidy Bryant, Pete Davidson, Kate McKinnon, and Kyle Mooney left in May. Alex Moffat, Melissa Villaseor, and Aristotle Athari left during the summer, and Chris Redd left in September.
