Awarded as the best-selling Canadian recording artist as well as one of the best-selling artists of all time, Celine Dion is a Canadian singer who is known for her powerful yet elegant voice. She was first recognized internationally when she won the Yamaha World Popular Song Festival in 1982 and the Eurovision Song Contest in 1998. After signing with Epic Records, Dion released her first English-spoken album called Unison. She continued to gain more popularity as her songs like “The Power of Love”, “My Heart Will Go On, “Because You Loved Me” and “It’s All Coming Back To Me Now” captured the heart of people worldwide.
Back in late 2019, fans started to worry for Celine Dion’s health as she noticeably lost weight, and rumors of her having an eating disorder were all around the internet. After a talk with ABC News, she decided to address the speculations about her health and admittedly said that she knows she lost a few pounds but it is not something to worry about because she is healthy. She further adds that it is due to her new hobby in life: ballet. “I do this four times a week. People say ‘she’s a lot thinner’ but I’m working hard. I like to move and weight loss comes with it.”, she told the interviewers from People magazine.
The rumors first started when pictures of Dion, looking thinner than she was last January 2019, were released during Alexandre Vauthier’s fashion show in Paris. Rumors and concerns then started to spread as more photos of Dion were revealed by paparazzi and fashion outlets. Fans began expressing their worries on social media saying she looks too “skinny” and “weak.” Comments like “She looks so fragile” and “She looks way too thin” took over a number of social media platforms.
Celine Dion at Ronald van der Kamp’s fashion show in January 2019 For several years, Dion has received mixed responses from fans about her overall health and weight. Although her slim figure has always made the headlines, she insists that she feels “strong and feminine”. Speaking to The Sun’s Dan Wootton, she mentions that “I’m doing this for me. I want to feel strong, beautiful, feminine and sexy” when asked about how she sees fashion and health after the death of her husband, René Angélil, due to throat cancer last 2016.
Whilst her weight loss is apparent, there has never been a confirmation on the exact number of how much she actually lost. The superstar singer expressed her thoughts on the criticism she has been getting regarding her petite structure saying, “If I like it, I don’t want to talk about it. Don’t bother. Don’t take a picture. If you like it, I’ll be there. If you don’t, leave me alone."
Love yourself, #imperfections and all! Another peek behind the scenes of the “Imperfections” music video shoot. - Team Celine Similar to other celebrities, Celine Dion’s health and weight have always made headlines as fans continue to have their speculations. While in an interview with Tracey Grimshaw from A Current Affair, she mentions that: “Sometimes it’s the fashion; some of the things they make me look thinner. (Or it may be) the angles, and just for them (the fans) to know, sometimes they (magazines) add, or they take off, they can change a few little things.”
Dion also talks about how she stays in shape with People magazine last January 2019. “Dancing has been in my DNA all of my life. It’s a dream. And so hard!” She further goes on to speak about her newfound passion in ballet and how her stylist, also close friend, Pepe Munoz, has been doing it with her. Numerous media outlets have even gone so far to share that the singer is affected by an incurable disease which caused her weight loss. As she has always been under the spotlight, Celine knew that this may be a big deal to others but it wasn’t for her as it is far from the truth.
Celine has even shared her diet plan to prove that she isn’t suffering from any disorder:
-Breakfast: Black coffee & a Croissant
-Lunch: Baguette & a Salad or Cauliflower vichyssoise (soup) or a quiche with salad & sweet Italian custard
-Dinner: Sfihas (a Mediterranean meat pie dish) & fried cauliflower or, sometimes, french fries.
In a more recent interview with Entertainment Tonight on September 26, 2019, she shares how comments regarding her figure are a part of her job: “If you don’t want to be criticized, you are in the wrong place. I take the positive. I take what’s good for me. I leave behind what is not good for me. I let my management take care of that, and if it hurts anyone, they will take care of that. And I need to focus on what’s right for me, how I feel and, last but not the least, you can’t please everybody.”
So, long story short, Celine Dion’s weight loss is not because of any illness! The singer has been very clear and open about how ballet has really changed her figure given that the sport can burn a number of calories, as well as her diet plan. From interviews with various media outlets and platforms, the record-selling artist has directly stated that she is totally fine and there is nothing to worry about.
A year ago, today we released “Courage”, “Imperfections” and “Lying Down”, and we started an incredible tour. Thank you so much for all your love and support. It means a lot to me. Stay safe and stay positive and I can’t wait to see you all again soon! 🔥❤ - Celine xx… After posting a picturelast August of herself practicing ballet on Instagram, fans have been left speechless with the singer’s now-toned figure at the age of 52. Currently keeping herself isolated due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Celine Dion shares a glimpse of her home in Las Vegas where she also performed to help raise money for charity along with a few of her fellow artists. The astounding vocalist who can also sing in Spanish, German, Latin, Italian, Mandarin Chinese and Japanese, sang Une Chance Qu’on S’a, a French song written by Jean-Pierre Ferland, from her living room where several pictures of her nine-year-old twins and her firstborn were seen.
The ambassador for L’Oreal Paris recently uploaded yet another photoon Instagram last October that revealed the sun glow on her makeup-free skin. Wearing all black with a red shawl to accompany her comfortable but fit attire, Dion captions her photo: “In challenging times it’s even more important to reflect on everything that we are thankful for. I hope you find moments of peace, happiness, and love today and everyday.” With no obvious breakouts, hyperpigmentation or dry patches seen in her skin, she highlighted the importance of hygiene during her interview with Hello! Magazine as dirt and bacteria can damage the skin. She goes on to mention that for those who use makeup, it is very important to clean your brushes and sponges with soap and water.
Aside from taking care of her skin, Dion is still persistent in keeping up an active and healthy lifestyle. She continues to practice ballet and go to the gym to ensure that she is working toward the best version of herself that she can be.
Following health protocols, the worldwide known singer is currently still on quarantine to avoid the spread of the virus. As the new year of 2021 greets everyone with anxiety and worry that the year will be exactly the same as 2020, Celine Dion promotes positivity and optimism through an Instagram post. While sporting her natural bare face and her beautiful smile, she wrote “A new year brings new hope. As we are all still facing incredibly challenging days ahead, let’s take good care, look after each other and remember that lighter and brighter days will be with us soon. May 2021 bring us moments of gentleness, pace and positivity.” Most fans were touched and inspired by Celine’s post as some commented “Wishing you health and happiness” as well as “Awwww, I love everything about this post!” This was not the first time the singer used her platform to spread positivity and light as she posted a rare family picture with her and her 3 sons under their Christmas tree. Celine wrote, “May this holiday season bring all of you the gifts of love, peace, good health and the promise of brighter days in the New Year ahead!”
Although Celine tries her best to share light and optimism as much as she can, she is still a normal human being like all of us who experiences rough days. In January 2021, the hit singer posted another Instagram picture with more of a heartfelt message to her late husband, René who died from throat cancer back in January 2016. “"René, it’s been 5 years already… There’s not one day that we don’t think about you. We’re reaching out to you now more than ever, to guide us, protect us, and continue to watch over us. And we pray that you’ll shine your love on the entire world, to all those at this very moment, who are facing incredibly difficult times. You are in our hearts and in our lives forever. We love you, Celine, René-Charles, Nelson and Eddy xx...” Celine dion captioned her Instagram picture.
Ever-supportive fans were quick to respond to her post by sending love and prayers to her and her family as they soon realized that January is a tough month for the singer. On January 17, 2020, Celine’s mother Thérèse had also passed away because of old age. With much respect and elegance, Celine announced the news on her social media platforms that although this is a hard time, she will be pushing through her tour (back in 2020) and that the entire show would be dedicated to her mother. On the day of her concert in Miami, Florida, she decided to open up to her fans regarding the news by saying “I’m pretty sure that you heard the news about my mom passing away early this morning. But, I’m doing okay and we’re all okay. So, last night I joined my brothers and sister in Montreal, and I spent the evening at her bedside. We told stories, we sang songs. We hugged each other and we said our goodbyes.”
Going back to her present life, the hit singer posted a rare pictureof her and her eldest son, René-Charles, on Instagram for his 20th birthday. As she rarely shares about her personal life, fans were delighted to get an update about Celine and her family. She captioned her picture, “René-Charles, my son. Twenty years ago, I had the privilege to hear the word mom for the very first time… my dream came true, and you changed our lives forever! It’s hard to believe that two decades have already passed. You carry the colour of the sky in your eyes and that same blue is the colour of our love. Go out there and embrace life, and remember to never stop believing in yourself, because I believe in you. Remember also that your father is always watching over you and guiding you. We love you so much… Happy birthday, RC! -Mom, Nelson and Eddy xx…” Moreover, being the supportive mother that she is, Celine went on her social media accounts to share the wonderful news about his first ever EP release. “I’m so proud of my son. My love for him is so strong, and it touches me deeply that one of his passions is also one of mine. TVEC. -Mom xx..” she posted on her Instagram story and Twitter account.
With all that, it is very much clear that the My Heart Will Go On record-winning artist is focused on her family’s health and safety as of the moment. As she said to still be quarantining at home with her sons, Celine continues to work on her passion for singing. Her “Courage” World tour is scheduled to start in March 2021 with no cancellation announcement so far. With this, we very much believe that the singer is spending as much time as she can practicing and getting ready for her upcoming show.
