Now that you’ve said “yes” to the big question, there are countless things to plan and do. The first thing you need to do is enjoy the moment! Let the totality of what just happened sink in, then decide how you will share your amazing news with those you know and love.
Now that you’ve said “yes” to the big question, there are countless things to plan and do. The first thing you need to do is enjoy the moment! Let the totality of what just happened sink in, then decide how you will share your amazing news with those you know and love.
The excitement of this new chapter in your life is best captured with photographs. Engagement pictures are the first thing you will share with others while announcing your relationship has just advanced to the next step. Don’t be afraid to travel to find a locationthat will provide a perfect backdrop for your first adventure as an engaged couple.
Take advantage of what nature has to offer. Winter engagement photoswith the brilliance of the freshly fallen snow resting on otherwise barren tree branches can be the perfect understated elegance you seek.
There is no wrong time to take your engagement pictures, although they should be at least 4 to 6 months before the wedding. You can get them done shortly after your engagement or wait until whichever season suits your personality. More important than the time of year you decide to have the pictures done is being sure you’ve dressed appropriately.
Be aware of your location. If you’re both avid hikers and decide a trail would be a fitting location, chances are, you won’t want to wear heels. Your chosen location will dictate, to a degree, what’s appropriate to wear.
Be comfortable! You know which kind of clothesare either flattering or make you feel comfortable. You want to keep this in mind when deciding on what to wear for your photoshoot. If you are uncomfortable, it will be very difficult to enjoy your session, which may reflect in your expressions.
Have a couple of different outfits that coordinate with your partner. Avoid the cringe factor by having matching outfits instead of coordinating them. If you have one more formal picture, if you’re in a dress, he should be in a nice button-down shirt. Try to avoid busy patterns or bold colors; either can be distracting to the viewer. Instead, go with solid colors and have a bold accessory like statement jewelry or scarf.
Lighter shades, like pastels or muted colors, photographwell and don’t take the attention away from your faces. Although you are avoiding matching, your colors should coordinate. The easiest way to do this is to stay within the same color family.
You know what parts of your body you're comfortable with and which make you feel self-conscious. Make sure you choose outfits that showcase your assets. If you aren’t happy with your upper arms, maybe that spaghetti-strapped dress isn’t the best choice. Instead, consider wearing a 3/4 length sleeve or pairing that dress in a shawl or draped scarf.
It can’t be stressed enough that your comfort is very important. Not only will you feel more confident, but it will shine through in your pictures.
If you’re worried about your legs letting down your outfit, consider wearing heels. Heels are known to elongate your legs and give you that little ego boost you need to smile bright!
What better way to spend the day with your favorite person than to make a date for your photoshoot? Find a great place for dinner and one on one time after your pictures. It will be a great time to recount all the fun memories you made having your photographs taken.
