The suspect, who is 73 years old, went from apartment to apartment looking for his victims. Police don't know why he did this, though. Police shot and killed the alleged gunman, who had lived in the building for a long time. At this point, the police do not know who the victims are.
At 19:20 (00:20 GMT) on Sunday, there was a report of a shooting at an apartment building in Vaughan, which is about 30 km (19 miles) north of Toronto. Police chief Jim MacSween said that when officers arrived, they found a "horrific scene" with five dead bodies in three different apartments.
At a press conference on Monday, a representative for Ontario's Special Investigations Unit, which looks into deaths involving police, said that the alleged gunman was shot by responding officers in a hallway.

On the alleged gunman's social media accounts, he recently posted a few videos in which he complained about the management of the building because of an electrical unit under his apartment.
The Toronto Star said that the shooter was a long-time resident who had been suing the condo board for years because of a long-running disagreement with board members. Police chief MacSween said there was no longer a threat to the public, and York police said that people who had to leave the building could go back home.
Residents told local media that they were shocked that a shooting spree happened in their usually quiet neighborhood. Jordan Bennett, a resident of the building, told CBC News, "I feel pretty safe here so I'm pretty shocked to hear something like this happened."
A week before, three people were killed in a similar attack in Italy. In that Rome incident, a man opened fire on a meeting of the condo board, killing three women and hurting others. Politicians, like the mayor of Vaughan, Stephen Del Duca, and the leader of Ontario, Doug Ford, have sent their condolences.
In a tweet, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also sent his condolences to the families, saying,

Even though there aren't as many mass shootings in Canada as there are in the US, there have been a few high-profile violent incidents in the country recently. In 2020, 22 people were killed in Nova Scotia by a gunman who was dressed as a police officer. This was the worst mass shooting in the country's history.
Since then, the Canadian government has introduced new laws that will, among other things, make it illegal to buy or import handguns and "assault-style" firearms in Canada, make it harder to smuggle or sell guns, and set up a "red flag" law that would allow guns to be temporarily taken away from people who pose a risk to themselves or others.
Mr. Trudeau said that the law was proposed "to make sure that guns that are designed to kill the largest number of people as quickly as possible have no place in Canada."
Some people don't like the move, like Canadian hunters who say it could affect a number of rifles and shotguns that are mostly used for hunting and sports. Others have said that the law doesn't do anything about the fact that most illegal weapons that get into Canada do so through the border between the US and Canada.
