Godzilla vs. Kong has 40-ton headbutts, skyscraper-smashing chokeslams, enormous tail whips, massive ape-axes, and enough behemothic mayhem and destruction to keep us entertained until next Tuesday at the very least.
It has an endlessly amusing disregard for science and a plot that makes one want to make cuckoo noises when describing it, thanks in part to its depiction of a world within the planet where all prehistoric beasts went to live a long time ago (and it's an even more bizarre place than I'll describe here).
And that's all before the third act's monstrous mosh is illuminated in the neon light of late-night Hong Kong, when it reaches ridiculous speeds. I'd also add that it's without a doubt the greatest film in which Rebecca Hall is asked to repeat the phrase "This is a force beyond our comprehension."
You can't simply dig into it!" which I took as a meta-warning not to even attempt to establish an intellectual foothold in this situation. All of this is a long way of stating that the film is both very dumb and really cool. Wingard isn't satisfied with his megalithic pugilists just pounding on each other in a workmanlike manner, as Godzilla and co. did in the dismal King of the Monsters from 2019.
His camera whirls and swirls zoom in close to the creatures' lovely and/or ferocious eyes, then stand back in amazement as the show unfolds; it is dragged deep below and through stomach-churning gravity-warps (yeah, I know, but just go with it).
The Hollow Earth scenario is beautifully and colorfully portrayed, and Hong Kong, the site of the climactic fight, is an incredible metropolis, a manufactured piece of beauty just begging to be crushed into a dozen distinct degrees of leveling dust. The film is often breathtaking, a real feast for the eyes, and it begs to be viewed on the largest possible screen.
As much as I like the streaming experience, not being able to see it in a cinema made this particular kaiju fanatic a little unhappy (the film is being released concurrently in theaters and for 30 days on HBO Max, so the wheres and hows and COVID safety measures are entirely up to you).
When compared to Kong, who is presented as not only a sympathetic hero, but a friend of the children, won't somebody think of the children? With a large heart and sometimes loving eyes, Godzilla vs. Kong may be a bit lacking in portraying Godzilla's inner life.
Godzilla, on the other hand, isn't nearly the living embodiment of nature's cold and merciless utilitarian objective that he was in the first MonsterVerse film, 2014's Godzilla, which is the series' finest thematic exercise. He's mellowed a little, and behind that scaly stare, there's a glint of humanistic intellect.
The new picture is a deft mix of Godzilla's sharp visual wallop and Kong: Skull Island's delightful comic books. There are a few references to King Kong vs. Godzilla from 1962, so keep your eyes open.
To be honest, watching these two fight is a lot like watching my cats fight; it's a lot of fun, but you wish they'd just stop and find out how to work together against an invasive species in the home.
I won't reveal much, but Godzilla vs. Kong is a satisfying spectacle of indiscriminate devastation, and I smiled maniacally the whole time. If this is the last chapter in the new MonsterVerse (say it ain't so? ), the series will go out with a bang.

Godzilla Vs Kong Announces Return To Hbo Max

With Legendary Pictures' crossover putting an end to the discussion of which of these two giant monsters would be victorious with their latest iterations, Godzilla Vs. Kong has easily become one of the biggest blockbuster movies of 2021, and it appears that fans won't have to wait long for the kaiju movie to return to HBO Max.
While the picture was available on the streaming service at the same time that it was released in theaters earlier this year, it was removed from HBO Max after a thirty-day period, like with previous entrants.
The newest kaiju crossover has grossed over $450 million USD worldwide since its release earlier this year, demonstrating that there were plenty of fans eager to witness the two most popular gigantic monsters settle their disputes with their fists and teeth.
While there has been no official confirmation that the MonsterVerse would continue with a new chapter after the long-awaited crossover, rumors have been swirling for months that Godzilla Vs. Kong filmmaker Adam Wingard will be returning with a new feature under the title "Son of Kong" in the future.
According to HBO Max, Godzilla Vs. Kong will be back on the streaming service on August 17th, enabling fans to relive the final battle or see it for the first time if they missed it in cinemas or when it was available on the service earlier this year.
The future of Godzilla and Kong has yet to be determined, in either the Western or Eastern markets, with many kaiju enthusiasts wondering whether we will see the lizard king return in his Shin Godzilla incarnation. The Shin version of the King of the Monsters, designed by Hideaki Anno of Neon Genesis Evangelion fame, has been the most recent take on the lizard king, although no plans for a return have been announced.
