After The HFPA controversy, Golden Globe nominations has been announced. A number of significant amendments have been made to the bylaws and organizational structure of the HFPA over the course of the past few months in order to address the association's controversial practices as well as its lack of transparency and inclusiveness.
Twenty-one new members were added to the organization in order to increase the diversity of the voting body. Additionally, at the beginning of October, the organization entered into a partnership with the NAACP for a period of five years to form a "Reimagine Coalition" that will fund a series of initiatives aimed at increasing diversity in the industry.

The Reform

The President of the Golden Globes, Helen Hoehne, has expressed her frustration that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is not receiving sufficient credit for its efforts to reform.
Despite the fact that publicists have refused to allow the HFPA access to talent interviews and there have been very few submissions for Globe consideration, Hoehne claims that the group has viewed nearly all of the content that is eligible for consideration by way of links, screeners, and in some cases, by going to theaters to watch movies. According to her, HFPA voters have seen a total of 221 movies and 357 television shows.

The Banshees Of Inisherin And Abbott Elementary

The Golden Globe Awards will return to television next year after NBC decided not to broadcast them in 2022 due to controversy surrounding the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's lack of diversity and overall ethics.
On Monday, the nominations for the 2023 ceremony were announced, which will once again be broadcast live on television and hosted by Jerrod Carmichael.
"The Banshees of Inisherin" was the top nominee on the film side, picking up eight nods total, including Best Motion Picture and acting nominations for Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. On the television side, "Abbott Elementary" took home five nominations, including Best Comedy Series.
Brendan Fraser was nominated for "The Whale," despite his refusal to attend the ceremony if the HFPA chose to honor him. He previously accused former HFPA president Philip Berk of sexual assault, alleging that Berk groped and assaulted him during a luncheon in 2003 and citing the alleged incident as the reason he left Hollywood. Berk previously admitted to grabbing Fraser's buttocks but claimed it was all in good fun.
In terms of notable omissions or omissions from the nominations, while Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, and Jamie Lee Curtis were all nominated for "Everything, Everywhere, All at Once," Stephanie Hsu was omitted. Jennifer Lawrence for "Causeway," Tom Hanks for "Elvis," Tom Cruise for "Top Gun: Maverick," and Will Smith for "Emancipation" are also absent. Cruise, of course, returned his three Golden Globes in protest of the HFPA in 2021.
Jordan Peele's "Nope" received no love at all, despite the fact that many considered it one of the best films of the year, with a standout performance from Keke Palmer. There has also been some criticism of the all-male Best Director nominees in a year when female directors such as Gina Prince-Bythewood ("The Woman King") released award-worthy films.

Final Words

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has planned to make the announcement of Golden Globe winners live at the Hilton on January 9, despite the fact that the proceedings will not be televised and that talent is unlikely to attend.
It does not appear that this will be a celebrity-driven event, according to Hoehne, who notes that discussions are currently taking place as to what the specific format will be for the event. In 2023, when the Golden Globes will be celebrating its 80th anniversary, she is looking forward to watching the show again.
Hoehne has promised that until that time:
We will focus 100% on our reforms and what we can do better.- Helen Hoehne
