At the mention of virtual worlds, most people will instinctively remember the heightened reality of Second Life or the chaotic energy of VRChat. Internet users have used virtual environments as the ideal staging ground for role-playing, socialization, and virtual events since 3D environments were first invented. The relatively recent arrival of the virtual collaboration platform Meetaversehas shown that virtual worlds are not just fleeting amusements or vehicles for entertainment, but also a way to make virtual collaboration, work training, webinars, onboardings, and work events more immersive and engaging.
Meetaverse first arrived on the market in August 2023. The Delaware-based company is virtual in more ways than one, as all its employees work remotely, showing that they understand both the unique challenges and the advantages of virtual communication. Founders Oded Napchi and Cal Nathan aimed to use the same technologies and concepts as virtual worlds like Second Life to create online spaces where professionals from all over the world can experience the feeling of being in the same room as their colleagues in different states or countries.

Instead of the static, flat backgrounds of Microsoft Teams or Zoom, Meetaverse users are free to look around fully modeled 3D conference rooms and office buildings located in simulated environments such as seaside towns, train stations, or lush forests. All of the platform’s environments are highly customizable, allowing hosts to design the ideal space for their event’s visual needs.
The platform also takes advantage of the interactive nature of 3D virtual worlds, giving users the opportunity to participate in gamified challenges to encourage participation. The team at Meetaverse is also working on incorporating polls, quizzes, and expansive collaboration hubs for added interactivity. Meetaverse is also working on built-in closed captioning and real-time translation, making the platform even more accessible to a global audience.
Meetaverse is taking the best elements from video games and multiplayer virtual worlds to transform the experience of virtual meetings and video conferencing. The company is planning a graphics upgrade using the Unity 3D engine, known for powering video games such as Hollow Knight, Beat Saber, Cuphead, and Among Us. Furthermore, the platform plans to add customizable avatars for each user, adding an element of self-expression. Avatar gestures and virtual photo booths also serve to enhance the social elements of the platform and the connections users can make by congregating in the same virtual space.
While Meetaverse aims to take the concept of virtual worlds into the realm of work and business, it hasn’t forgotten to keep elements of play within its platform’s design, recognizing that participating in a virtual world is fundamentally an act of the imagination. Users may not physically be within the virtual environments created by Meetaverse, but the platform has done everything possible to make them feel like they are. This reimagining of traditional teleconferencing methods is designed to ensure attendees stay engaged even after three-hour-long meetings.
Meetaverse took a major step since its founding by releasing a mobile version of its platform in May 2025, making it accessible not only through laptops and desktop computers, but also tablets and smartphones. Many of the aforementioned features and upgrades are planned to roll out throughout 2026. This evolution comes as Meetaverse grows alongside its sister platform, Althimis, which develops advanced training and simulation programs for the defense and unmanned systems sectors. Both operate under their parent company, Althimis, Inc.
As Meetaverse continues to expand under Althimis, it reveals increasing efforts to humanize online communication and make it more interactive. Borrowing a page from virtual worlds and online games, it finds novel ways of making remote work less isolating and more collaborative. Whether this new approach is adopted universally or not, Meetaverse has demonstrated how virtual workspaces of tomorrow will be not just about tech, but also about imagination.
